Extending the Agenda. Equality Bodies addressing Hate Speech

Hate speech and hate crime are growing and damaging phenomena across Europe. This is recognised in the work of the European Commission and of the Council of Europe. European standards for equality bodies recommend that their mandate be extended to include hate speech. Few equality bodies have an explicit mandate on hate speech, many have, however, interpreted their mandate to include hate speech. This situation can leave them lacking the competences and resources required to make an impact.

Training: Engaging with the UNCRPD Committee and Disabled Persons’ Organisations

Location: Riga, Latvia On 3-4 October 2018, the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) and the European Network of Equality Bodies’ (Equinet) host a training event for equality bodies and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) on the Engagement of the article 33(2) Independent Monitoring Mechanisms (IMMs) with the UNCRPD Committee and Disabled Persons’ Organisations (DPOs). The aim of the training session is to increase and support strategic capacity of equality bodies and NHRIs to engage with the UNCRPD Committee and DPOs.
