The EU directive on whistleblowers, adopted in 2019, will have to be implemented by the twenty-eight member states of the European Union in the next two years.
In France, the Defender of Rights, an independent constitutional authority, is the competent institution designated by the Act No. 2016-1691 of 9 December 2016 on transparency, the fight against corruption and the modernization of economic life, to orient and protect whistleblowers.
Three years after this mechanism was created, and two years before the European directive is implemented, the Defender of Rights wants to gather all the stakeholders that are involved and experts in the field, in a major European conference in Paris, in order to foster the emergence of recommendations to consolidate and increase the protection of whistleblowers.
This day will be an opportunity for personalities from various backgrounds – sociologists, lawyers, public authorities, corporations, political leaders, stakeholders from NGOs and unions, whistleblowers – to exchange on three key issues:
