On 24 June, Unia published its annual report for the year 2018 giving a detailed analysis of progresses in the field of equality as well as new and remaining challenges.
The report gives an overview by sectors, including employment, education, hate speech/media, hate crimes and even elections. It gives us a deep understanding of discrimination issues in almost every sphere of Belgian society.
A statistical analysis of complaints received and handled is present in the report, revealing a steady increase of complaints in the last 3 years. Although ethnicity remains the most prevalent ground growing in number of complaints every year, disability has seen an increase of 50% in the last 5 years with a steep increase of almost 20% between 2017 and 2018.
