The Czech Republic has been repeatedly criticised by various institutions for its segregation of, and discrimination against, Roma children. The situation has unfortunately not changed much, and segregation remains a serious problem in the country. In the past few years, the amount of successful legal actions concerning discrimination has been increasing. As the number of judgements grows, the courts get more confident in their procedure in such cases. The most frequent complaints in 2017 were those connected to discrimination on the grounds of disability and discrimination was mostly experienced in workplace. This Report for 2017 covers all the issues that the Public Defender of Rights has addressed in the area of discrimination.
