The Equality and Human Rights Commission commissioned research to help them understand public attitudes to human rights and to specific human rights issues, and inform their work to promote understanding of the importance of human rights. The research has focused in particular on gaining a more detailed picture of people with mixed views on human rights – a group identified in previous research – and their values and motivations to support human rights. This is a summary of the key findings and recommendations for talking to the public about human rights.

On 3-4 October 2018, the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) and the European Network of Equality Bodies’ (Equinet) host a training event for equality bodies and National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs) on the Engagement of the article 33(2) Independent Monitoring Mechanisms (IMMs) with the UNCRPD Committee and Disabled Persons’ Organisations (DPOs).
The aim of the training session is to increase and support strategic capacity of equality bodies and NHRIs to engage with the UNCRPD Committee and DPOs.

LGBTI people continue to experience stigma and discrimination combined with social isolation and limited understanding, leading to significant barriers in terms of accessing health and social care services. These experiences can translate into a risk of depression, suicide and self‐harm, violence, substance misuse and HIV infection.
Implemented between March 2016 and March 2018, the aim of this pilot project was to improve our understanding of how best to reduce specific health inequalities experienced by lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and intersex (LGBTI) people. It focused on overlapping inequalities stemming from discrimination and unfair treatment on other grounds (e.g. age, status, income).
