The European Commission has a number of funding and tender opportunities available for Equality Bodies, and we encourage you to apply based on your interests. Equality Bodies have the opportunity to apply individually for projects developed by their institution, or in partnership with other organizations.
Apply as project coordinators
The following calls for proposal might be in areas of interest for your Equality Body and you are eligible to apply as project coordinator. You can lead the project on your own or you can have a partner to help you if necessary.
Call for proposals to promote equality and to fight against racism, xenophobia and discrimination
Deadline: 20 June 2023 – 17:00:00 Brussels time
Eligibility: be legal entities (public or private bodies) − be established in one of the EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories (OCTs)) or non-EU countries associated to the CERV Programme or countries which are in ongoing negotiations for an association agreement and where the agreement enters into force before grant signature (list of participating countries)
Scope: the objective is to support a comprehensive and intersectional approach, funding specific actions to prevent and fight against discrimination and combat intolerance, racism and xenophobia, in particular on grounds of racial or ethnic origin, colour, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, including when this manifests itself in the form of antigypsyism, anti-black racism, antisemitism, anti-Muslim hatred, and LGBTIQ phobia.
Call for European Remembrance – 2023
Deadline: 06 June 2023 – 17:00:00 Brussels time
Eligibility: the applicants (lead applicants “Coordinator”, co-applicants and affiliated entities) must be non-profit legal entities (public or private bodies) or an international organisation and be formally established in one of the eligible countries, i.e.: – EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories (OCTs)) or non-EU countries associated to the CERV Programme or countries which are in ongoing negotiations for an association agreement and where the agreement enters into force before grant signature
Scope: Supporting projects aimed at commemorating defining events in modern European history, including the causes and consequences of authoritarian and totalitarian regimes, and at raising awareness among European citizens, of their common history, culture, cultural heritage and values, thereby enhancing their understanding of the Union, its origins, purpose, diversity and achievements and of the importance of mutual understanding and tolerance. Policy initiatives supported: – EU Strategy on combating antisemitism and fostering Jewish life 2021-2030 – EU anti-racism action plan for 2020-2025 – EU Roma strategic framework on equality, inclusion and participation.
Apply with partners
The following calls for proposal might be in areas of interest for your Equality Body, but you are eligible to apply only if in partnership with others. Participating in such a consortium would be a great way to collaborate with others, and if you are interested, there are many ways to find potential partners. For example, you can use the ‘partner search announcements’ to indicate your interest, as well as checking with local NGOs you would like to work with. Equinet can also share calls within the membership if anyone has a proposal and is looking for NEB partners – so if you have an idea, let us know!
Call for proposals to promote civil society organisations’ awareness of capacity building and implementation of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights
Deadline: 25 May 2023 – 17:00:00 Brussels time
Eligibility:
- For lead applicants (i.e. the “Coordinator”): be non-profit legal entities (private bodies)
- For co-applicants: be non-profit or profit legal entities (public or private bodies) and be formally established in one of the eligible countries, i.e.: EU Member States (including overseas countries and territories (OCTs))
Themes and priorities (scope):
- Protecting EU values and rights by combating hate speech and hate crime: Projects under this priority should aim to enable civil society organisations to establish mechanisms of cooperation with public authorities to support the reporting of episodes of hate crime and hate speech; to ensure support to victims of hate speech and hate crime; and to support law enforcement, including through training or data collection methodologies and tools.
- Capacity-building and awareness raising on the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights: The projects funded under this priority could address the needs on capacity building and awareness raising on the Charter in general, or they could focus on one or severalof the thematics such as Rights enshrined in the Charter and awareness of the Charter’s scope of application or Protecting fundamental rights in the digital age
- Supporting an enabling environment for the protection of whistleblowers: Support will be given to creating an enabling environment for reporting and informing on breaches of EU law, in particular by building capacity on the effective application of the Directive on whistleblower protection (Directive (EU) 2019/1937). Projects under this priority should support and protect whistleblowers and build capacity of national authorities and legal practitioners to ensure adequate legal remedies to protect whistleblowers.
- Strategic litigation: In this context, the support and assistance to the victims provided by civil society organisations, NHRIs and Equality bodies and Ombud-institutions is instrumental. Projects under this priority should, through training, knowledge sharing and exchange of good practices, strengthen the knowledge and ability of civil society organisations as well as of practitioners, legal professionals and independent human rights bodies to effectively engage in litigation practices at national and European level and to improve access to justice and enforcement of rights under EU law, including the Charter.
- Promoting rights and values by empowering the civic space: projects under this priority should promote rights and values by empowering civil society actors to work together at the local, regional and national levels on the fields covered by the programme. Projects should also help creating a channel of communication with the EU level to report on the state of the civic space in their countries and voice their concerns. Transnational partnerships with mutual learning possibilities for partners in several EU Member States are particularly encouraged to apply, as well as networks of relevant actors at national level such as National Human Rights Institutions (NHRIs), Equality bodies, Ombuds-institution and the national Charter Focal Points.
