Gumru received her MSc diploma in Conflict and Development from Gent University in 2022. In 2019, she started working in GIZ Azerbaijan as Monitoring and Evaluation Officer and Project Coordinator and she moved to one of the conflict zones in Azerbaijan and worked there for 7 months. Her job focused on economic empowerment of Internally Displaced People from the conflict zones of Azerbaijan. In August 2019, she moved to Sofia, Bulgaria and worked as an international fellow in the field of Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights with countries from Eastern Europe and Central Asia. During the COVID period, she started two initiatives that focus on social and labour rights and women’s rights. These initiatives provided free legal assistance on social and labour rights and raised awareness on psychological and economic violence against women of different social backgrounds.
In the last three and half years, she focused on human rights issues in the field of social/labour/women’s rights. Currently, she is interested in working against racial injustice towards migrants as well.
Fun fact: Gumru feels connected with water even when it is frozen, so yo can either find her swimming, or ice skating. She also enjoys trying different sports and currently, she added gymnastics to the list as well. One thing her coaches are telling her about is how she has perseverance and keeps trying and learning until she makes it.
