Tackling Ageism and Discrimination

Equinet, with the support and contribution of its Working Group ‘Policy Formation’ prepared the perspective ‘Tackling Ageism and Discrimination’. This publication was released in support of the 2012 European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations and has been featured on the official website of the European year.

The perspective aims to:

• Enhance the policy context for the work of the equality bodies in promoting equality and combating discrimination on the age ground in all areas of life.
• Engage equality bodies at European and Member State level so that their experience can inform new commitments, directions and priorities for active ageing.
• Present a real and lasting challenge to ageism and discrimination and the manner in which these phenomena diminish older people and block their contribution to society.

This Equinet perspective focuses in particular on the situation and experience of older people and on the diversity of older people.
