As part of our work to strengthen the capacity of national equality bodies, Equinet is organising a training to support equality body staff in their communication work. The training on persuasive writing is due to take place end of November.
Concretely, we are looking to find (an) expert(s) to:
- Help develop their persuasive writing techniques, including understanding rhetoric models and other elements of persuasive writing. This would help equality bodies persuade their target audiences of the importance of equality in general, as well as addressing through speeches or articles hot and often contested topics such as the Istanbul Convention, same-sex marriage, migrants etc.
- Support equality bodies to recognise and respond to different debate techniques such as trolling or hate speech linked to their external communication, especially on social media.
The practical application of this learning will be central to the training, so that participants can leave with a new toolbox of acquired techniques. This applied learning will be reinforced after the training, as the trainer(s) will then deliver a checklist of practical tips for equality bodies, based on the experience of equality bodies as shared during the training, as well as a collection of examples of persuasive writing, that are custom made for situations faced by equality bodies.
Expertise required
The selected expert(s) or team to be chosen is expected to demonstrate:
- Proven knowledge and experience in persuasive writing related to equality and in dealing with online hate speech.
- An understanding of how to apply these to the fields of equality and human rights
- Knowledge of the work of national equality bodies and their diversity
- Excellent drafting skills in English
